The joy of conversion, Christian community, and the Catholic faith
Yes, I’ve come to the end of a most glorious season of my life, my evangelizing season—at least the public aspects. I’ve learned and experienced more gifts and lessons than I can recount. Each blogpost was a fresh gift of wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit as I grew in my capacity and opportunities to share my faith story.
I don’t remember participating much in that Mass because I spent that hour absorbed in the Nativity scene. I considered the Wise Kings, who answered God’s call and opened their hearts to his will. The kings traveled far and waited long, in faith, to discover their Savior. How expectant they were! God got their attention with the star, and they knew something wonderful was about to happen.
Discovering the Holy Spirit is an amazing and endless pursuit. From the beginning of my awakening to the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit, I’ve frequently called on him with the prayer, “I can’t do this; come, Holy Spirit.” He always shows up and reminds me of everything he has told me about my faith, as Jesus promised in John 14:26b. The Holy Spirit is my secret weapon in everything from seeking guidance in the presence of chaos, consolation in times of grief, or overcoming my shyness while speaking to a large audience.
