Know Your Story: Your Faith Bio

Part 2 of Know Your Story series

Editor’s Note: This two=part series, Know Your Story, is taken from Sharing Your Catholic Faith Story: Tools, Tips, and Testimonies by Nancy HC Ward. The series begins with Part 1: What is Your Galilee Moment? and concludes with Part 2: Your Faith Bio.

Your Faith Bio

Continue taking your time to reflect on your faith journey: where it began, how it came alive and grew strong with difficulties, victories, and miracles. Take the timeline of faith events and create your “faith bio” by adding some details to those God-moments of closeness to the Lord. This faith bio is your resource for sharing your formal testimony. The faith bio will remind you of many treasured incidents to include in your formal testimony, times you also can share informally when prompted by the Holy Spirit. Select the highpoints according to how they brought you nearer to God.

You may have more than one God-moment, as you will later see that I did. Begin with the first encounter with Jesus that began your personal relationship with him, the moment you knew he was real and loved you personally. Fill in as much detail as you feel necessary to recreate it for sharing. Continue writing what you remember about subsequent faith events, as I do in describing my dive into Catholicism in the following chapter.

You are using journal entries and your timeline of faith events to write about the most significant spiritual events in your life. Keep in mind that the process of creating your faith bio is a continuing exploration of your relationship with God. With each episode, consider where God took you spiritually and where you believe he is leading you.
