Friar’s Corner: News Flash from Heaven
Isaiah 43:16-21; Psalm 126:1-6; Philippians 3:8-14; John 8:1-11
What we have been looking at this Lent, cycle C, was the God of the Exodus doing mighty and wonderful things for the Jewish people who were mostly unfaithful. The things of the past are long past. God promised a new beginning, which he did in the life, blessings, death and resurrection of his Son, Jesus Christ. He did that two thousand years ago. Where are we now?
The real News Flash from heaven today can be shocking for the majority of Catholics. The real key to our faith is simple. We can have all kinds of ideas and knowledge. What of that is true or “fake news.” Check the answers to your questions in the “United States Catholic Catechism for Adults.” This is a must-have book next to our Bible in every Catholic home library. Our greatest need for evangelization is to come to know Jesus Christ, personally. Period. Jesus and his Holy Spirit will make sense of all the rest. Our life will totally change knowing Jesus personally. We will live our faith wanting to love Jesus more and do as he would have us do.
Jesus changes our lives
Once we meet Jesus and see what he is about in our personal lives today, much will change in our life. Our faith will be a daily “running” to spend some time with Jesus. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to lead us to be more in love with Jesus. As we prayerfully read the early parts of the four gospels, we can put ourselves into those stories and long to be more with Jesus. We long for a deeper relationship from our heart.
The more amazing thing is that Jesus pierces our hearts with more of his love and increases our understanding. The more we pray, “Jesus, I love you,” the more we get set on fire and want to live differently and tell others about Jesus. Amen.
Jesus is alive
The Masses these weeks are leading us to look at Jesus’ death. Yet he is not a bloody mess and dead. He is alive, glorified and everywhere. In a sense, he is the “glue” or “energy field” that keeps everything together including every cell of our earthly bodies.
Seek Jesus with all of your mind and heart. Love him and you will be shocked at what happens in your life. Try it; you’ll love it.
Blessings,
