With Our Savior Wednesdays: A Fraction of Gratitude

Join us on JoyAlive.net for the Lenten series for the whole family, “With Our Savior Wednesdays” for mid-week inspiration from Claire McGarry, author of With Our Savior.

Wednesday, Second Week of Lent
A Fraction of Gratitude

Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” LUKE 17:17-18

Leprosy is a terrible and contagious skin disease. In Jesus’ day, when someone got leprosy, others feared it would spread. Lepers had to leave their families and live in caves outside of town. When they did come into town, they had to yell, “Unclean!” so everyone could run away.

When the 10 lepers saw Jesus, they yelled out to be healed. Jesus told them to go see the priests. On the way, they were all healed. Their smooth skin meant they could go home to their families. Yet, only one of them went back to say “Thank you.” Don’t the other nine seem so ungrateful?

Where do we fall in this equation? Are we like one-tenth of the lepers, thanking God every day that we can see, and walk, and have food to eat? Or are we like the nine-tenths who forget to say thank you? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be 100 percent grateful, 100 percent of the time?

WITH OUR SAVIOR » Dear God, remind me to be grateful, always.

WITH YOUR FAMILY » Draw a circle on a piece of paper each morning. Each night, color in the portion equal to the gratitude you felt that day. Work toward being able to color 100 percent of your pie chart.

Enjoy all the posts in the With Our Savior Wednesdays series.
