Introducing Give Up Worry Wednesdays
For our Lenten series, we have chosen a transforming new book by Gary Zimak, Give Up Worry for Lent: 40 Days to Finding Peace in Christ.
No one is more experienced and thus more expert in overcoming worrying than Gary Zimak, who describes himself as a recovering worrier. From my interview with him, I’ve discovered he’s been fighting anxiety since he was six years old. “Panic attacks, heart palpitations, digestive problems – I’ve had them all,” he confesses. “It wasn’t until I met Jesus Christ and turned my life over to him that I was able to find peace. I assure you that life without worry is possible, but you can’t do it by yourself.”
Many scriptures tell us that God does not want his people to be anxious worriers, but free of anxiety. This Lent is your opportunity to give up worry, “the bad habit it feels good to give up.”
Give Up Worry for Lent has 47 chapters, to include the days of Lent not designated for fast and abstinence. Beginning with Ash Wednesday, this series will give you the Scripture and Reflection for each Wednesday of Lent, as a mid-week reminder of how to give up worry. Here’s the schedule of reflections:
3//6/29 Day 1: Ash Wednesday “Time to Rest”
3/13/19 Day 8: First Week of Lent “Mother Knows Best”
3/20/19 Day 15: Second week of Lent “Ask Your Father”
3/27/19 Day 22: Third week “Life Can Be Tough!”
4/3/19 Day 29: Fourth week “Do You Trust God?”
4/10/19 Day 36: Fifth week “Suffering is a Blessing”
4/17/19 Day 43: Holy Week “What Are You Looking For?
I’ll be enjoying this Lent by using the daily reflections Gary has created. Let’s learn together from a veteran teacher who has overcome habitual worrying. Gary and I will be grateful for your feedback.
