With Our Savior Wednesdays: Making God Proud

Join us on JoyAlive.net for the Lenten series for the whole family, “With Our Savior Wednesdays” for mid-week inspiration from Claire McGarry, author of With Our Savior.

Making God Proud

Happy is everyone who fears the Lord,
who walks in his ways. PSALM 128:1

Our neighbor is a retired Secret Serviceman. I asked his adult son, David, what it was like to be raised by someone who protected the President of the United States. David described it like this: “He demanded I always do my best. When I didn’t, I wasn’t afraid of the punishment; he always made sure that was equal to my mistakes. I was afraid of losing his respect. His opinion meant the world to me. The best was when I did well. The look of pride on his face made me feel like a hero. It made me want to try harder every day.”

It felt as if David were describing God. We’re supposed to be afraid of making mistakes and making God sad. But no matter what we do, we’ll never lose his love. That’s unconditional. What should inspire us is imagining the look of pride on God’s face when we do make good choices. Walking that path is what leads to holy heroism.

WITH OUR SAVIOR » Dear God, help me imagine the look of pride on your face as my inspiration to always make good choices.

WITH YOUR FAMILY » Draw how you think God’s face looks when you make mistakes. Below that, draw how you think God’s face looks when you make good choices. Which drawing do you prefer?
